Well I've just come back from my holiday
And there's something that I really must say
I've noticed this now on almost every flight
And I cant hold it in now, try as I might
Now the take off is fine and we're off into the air
And the time up there is quite boring, to be fair
But my confusion comes as we now land
As I thought that bit was also quite planned
And as those big wheels hit the ground
I hear a most amusing sound
A great big roaring round of applause
And I can't quite work out what is the cause?
Now I know that a pilot really does earn his pay
But the man, he does this, almost every day
It's his job for crying out loud
So is it really necessary to make this sound
Do I get a clap when I finish teaching a lesson?
Or a cheer for a checkout person at the end of their session?
Do we applaud the dustman when he empties my bin?
Or the factory worker who puts food in a tin?
Does the greengrocer get a whoop when he sells me my veg?
Or the butcher a cheer when he chops off a leg?
Does the plumber get applause when he stops a leak?
Or the truck driver, a clap, if still alive at the end of a week?
This thing, I do find, really quite odd
The pilot, you see, is only doing his job!
